Even A Thought

On Saturday afternoon I was chatting with my neighbor. It all seemed harmless enough. I was expressing to her how I felt that the majority of children today are being raised “differently” from how I think they should be (I’m not putting in here the details of what I said because it is not necessary to generate any more negative energy in the universe). Seeing as I do not have any children, this was a pretty bold statement to make. This conversation went on for quite some time and it followed the same basic premise.

After I returned to my house and reflected on the conversation I did not have a very positive feeling about my contribution. I thought to myself that another opportunity had presented itself to me and again I had fallen way short of the mark.

The opportunity that was presented to me was not to engage in a discussion that was wrought with judgments. In truth, I was judging these people. The details are not important. What is important is that this time I was using more generalities than specifics and somehow felt that that was acceptable.

Let me be clear: it is totally unacceptable. UNACCEPTABLE!

Now I will take it to a whole other level, which is that not only is it unacceptable to articulate a judgment, even one that is general and not specific, it is also completely insupportable to even have a thought that is a judgment.

Thoughts that are judgments are just as detrimental to the peaceful well being of this planet as ones that are articulated. You are still polluting the atmosphere when you are thinking disparagingly about someone. Sometimes I don’t think we realize the harm we are perpetrating by having those deprecating thoughts.

Imagine if you will for a moment, exchanging those critical thoughts for positive ones. For instance, a condemnatory thought shows up in your mind and you choose instead to trade it for one of everlasting peace. Go within and feel the difference it makes. Now picture how that will reverberate out from your being.

Pretty amazing, isn’t it? How we can change the world with just our thoughts.
