So the story goes that Hans, the little Dutch boy while on his way home was walking by one of the many dikes and noticed that it was leaking. Assessing the dire circumstances of the situation he knew that if he didn’t plug up the leak the whole town would soon be flooded. So the smart and brave little boy instinctively did the only thing he could think of, he shoved his small fist into the crack in the wall and successfully stopped the water from coming out.
Now he found himself in a predicament: he could not remove his fist for if he did the water would come cascading out. He had not thought that far ahead. Knowing that he was bound by his honor he was determined to remain until someone discovered him. Help finally did arrive. They found poor little Hans shivering in the cold after several hours.
What this story has reinforced for me is that when we step up with mighty courage, God will not forsake us. He will always send us exactly what we need at the precise time that we need it. He will never leave us with our fist plugged up in the hole. He knows better than we do what our needs are.
Even in your darkest moments God has never left you, for that is literally impossible. What is possible is for you not to acknowledge God’s presence. Trust me, He resides within you. He has been with you for eternity. The most joyous revelation is that you cannot separate from Him. Only our thoughts make us believe that separation is possible. In truth, you are One with God.
You must continue staying the course because God is merciful, loving, steadfast and true. And His Love endures forever.
